A wild rise on Wall Street

The US stock market saw a strong rise on Tuesday, and the S&P 500 index hurtled close to its all-time high.

Optimism in the market was fueled by hopes for the continuation of peace talks between the United States and Iran, which at the same time pushed oil prices down significantly. For the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 index, it was already the tenth consecutive day of gains, which is the longest winning streak since 2021.

The United States and Iran are aiming to hold a second round of peace talks in the coming days before the ceasefire expires.

The industrial company index Dow Jones rose 0.7 percent, the S&P 500 stock index, which tracks large companies, rose 1.2 percent and the technology-focused Nasdaq rose 2.0 percent.

The S&P 500 stock index, which tracks broad major companies, is close to an all-time high.

The highest closing price of the index, 6978.60 points, was seen on January 27, 2026. The next day, January 28, the index traded at 7002.28 points during the day, but finally ended in decline.

Today, the index reached its highest point of 6965.23 points.
