Tim Cook named his successor at the head of Apple

Tim Cook, who shaped Apple in the post-Steve Jobs era and led it to a $4 trillion market capitalization, will step down as CEO in September 2026.

Effective September 1, this position will be filled by Senior Vice President of Hardware Development John Ternus. Cook will become chairman of the board of directors.

Cook became Apple’s CEO in 2011, having previously served as chief operating officer. It was he who expanded the company far beyond the few products for which it was initially known – the Mac, iPod and iPhone. Under his leadership, Apple has become a significant player in new areas such as entertainment, healthcare and wearables.

Ternus, a longtime executive at the company, was widely considered Cook’s most likely successor. He joined Apple in 2001 on the product design team and gradually climbed the career ladder: in 2013, he became vice president of hardware engineering, and in 2021, senior vice president.

According to Apple, he played a key role in the creation of products such as the iPad and AirPods. His latest achievement was the launch last month of the MacBook Neo, the first budget MacBook.
