La Jornada: Collaboration agreement with Petrobras

The federal government agreed with the Brazilian Petrobras to take advantage of that oil company’s technological advances in areas such as biodiesel and ethanol production, as well as share developments generated in Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced yesterday. Last week, the president received Magda Chambriard, director of Petrobras, a company with mixed participation of the Brazilian government and the private sector, at the National Palace. Asked about the meeting in her daily press conference, she explained that “they have developed many methodologies for oil extraction and other things, for example, production of biodiesel or ethanol. We agreed to collaborate so that we can take advantage of many technological developments that they have and that they can take advantage of what we have.” He clarified that no document has yet been signed, but he announced that on May 13 a team from the production, exploration and transformation area of ​​Petrobras will come to Mexico, which will work jointly with Mexican technicians. On the other hand, when referring to the agreement with gas station concessionaires to reduce the price of diesel to 27 pesos per liter starting next week, he stressed that if this measure had not been agreed upon, the price of that fuel would be higher than 35 pesos per liter. This is a temporary action due to the effects of the war in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has generated an escalation in oil costs. “As long as this condition continues, we all did our part to help Mexican families and the national economy. Let’s hope that this circumstance does not last long and that we return to a situation where there is normal competition,” said the head of the federal Executive.
