Akamai Technologies buys Israeli startup for $205 million

The American company Akamai Technologies announced the purchase of the Israeli startup LayerX, which develops solutions for managing and protecting the use of artificial intelligence through corporate browsers.

The transaction value is $205 million. The startup, founded in 2022 by Or Eshed and David Weisbrod, has raised $45 million in funding over the years.

The startup’s employees, including the founders, will be part of Akamai’s cyber division.

Akamai positions the deal as an expansion of the Zero Trust direction – primarily in terms of control over the increasingly widespread use by employees of AI tools, SaaS services and autonomous AI agents.

According to the company, in 2026, organizations are primarily looking for control over what employees download, transmit and run through language models.

LayerX technology works on top of the browsers your organization already uses, without requiring you to switch to a dedicated corporate browser.

According to the company, the system allows security teams to monitor the use of AI tools, file downloads, work with SaaS applications and web surfing in real time, without changing the infrastructure or interfering with the work of employees.

Let us remind you that this is not Akmai’s first purchase in Israel. In 2021, the company bought Guardicore for about $600 million, in 2023 it acquired NeoSec, and in 2024 Noname Security for about $450 million.
