Ferrari unveils its first all-electric car

Ferrari presented its first all-electric car – Luce, which costs 640 thousand dollars, writes BBC. The new model is noticeably different from the usual Ferrari: it is the first five-seater car in the history of the brand. Its design was developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, a company founded by former Apple chief designer Jony Ive.

The appearance of Luce caused a strong reaction on social networks. Some users called the car “a road straight to the landfill”, others – “a real design masterpiece.” The electric supercar market is currently going through a difficult period. Brands such as Lamborghini and Porsche have already scaled back their electric vehicle plans due to weak demand and increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers.

Ferrari boss Benedetto Vigna said in Rome that the development of the Luce, whose name translates from Italian as “light,” took about five years. Previously, Ferrari avoided releasing fully electric models, preferring hybrids with gasoline and electric engines. However, now the company has decided to enter the EV market.

Luce is equipped with four electric motors of Ferrari’s own design – one for each wheel. The car can accelerate to 96 km/h in approximately 2.5 seconds. Ferrari emphasized that all key components are produced within the company. This should make the car easier to maintain in the future and help maintain its value on the secondary market.

Meanwhile, global automakers are increasingly facing challenges in transitioning to electric vehicles. Ford and Volkswagen, for example, are again betting on gasoline-powered vehicles, especially in the American market. The reason was low demand for EVs and policy changes under President Donald Trump, who cut incentives for buyers of electric cars. Recently, the Jaguar concept car was also criticized, which many considered too far from the classic style of the brand. A similar reaction followed after the presentation of Luce.

Ferrari chief designer Flavio Manzoni noted that such criticism is inevitable when introducing new ideas. According to him, the unusual design of the electric Ferrari is now causing controversy, but over time the public will be able to appreciate it. At the same time, Ferrari is not going to completely abandon traditional engines: the company will continue to produce gasoline and hybrid models along with a new electric car.
