Vietjet cooperates with EECO to develop an aviation technical center

The signing ceremony took place on May 28 in Bangkok, witnessed by General Secretary, President To Lam and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The event took place within the framework of the official visit to Thailand by General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife.

According to the agreement, Vietjet and EECO (Eastern Economic Corridor Office) will cooperate to build an MRO center at U-Tapao international airport to serve the airline’s operations. The project aims to improve technical capacity, optimize operations, shorten aircraft maintenance time and increase operational readiness.

The two sides also plan to promote investment in aviation technical infrastructure, technology transfer, training of high-quality human resources and strengthening aviation connectivity in the region.

The project is part of the airline’s strategy to develop an international aviation ecosystem in Asia – Pacific. The MRO Center at U-Tapao is expected to contribute to expanding cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand in the fields of infrastructure, technology and high-value aviation services.

Mr. Woranate Laprabang, General Director of Vietjet Thailand, said that cooperation with EECO is part of Vietjet’s strategy to develop an international aviation ecosystem in Asia – Pacific. “We believe that the project will open up new cooperation dynamics between Vietnam and Thailand, and contribute to enhancing the region’s position on the global aviation map,” he said.

U-Tapao International Airport is one of the cores of Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) program. Located near Bangkok, Pattaya and key industrial zones, this airport is oriented to develop into an “aerotropolis” model – an airport urban area integrating logistics, maintenance techniques and high-tech services.

The selection of U-Tapao to develop the MRO center shows Vietjet’s orientation to expand its role in the regional aviation value chain, in the context of Asia emerging as the world’s new aviation technical center.

On the same day, Vietjet announced the program to develop a new generation Boeing 737-8 fleet for Vietjet Thailand, and at the same time celebrated the milestone of 50 million passengers on the Vietnam – Thailand flight network. Vietjet Thailand will receive the 10th Boeing 737-8 aircraft in May this year, continuing its strategy of developing a modern fleet in Thailand. Vietjet Thailand currently operates 22 aircraft, the airline aims to expand to 50 Boeing 737-8 aircraft in the near future.

After more than a decade of development, Vietjet and Vietjet Thailand have transported a total of 360 million passengers across the flight network. The Vietnam – Thailand flight network alone has served 50 million passengers with 40 routes, nearly 1,000 flights per week, connecting 16 Vietnamese localities with 11 Thai localities.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, Vietjet continues its long-term investment plan in Thailand and the region, contributing to promoting peace, cooperation and common prosperity of ASEAN and Asia – Pacific.
