Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI on the way to a trillion dollar valuation

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has completed a $65 billion fundraising, in a deal that gives it a post-money value of $965 billion. In doing so, it for the first time overtook OpenAI, which until now was considered the most valuable private company in the field.

According to a report in Bloomberg, the round was closed within a relatively short period of time, after in recent months Anthropic received inquiries from a number of investors who wanted to join. It was led by the investment funds Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives, and develops artificial intelligence tools for organizations and companies, including the Claude language model. The company’s products are used, among other things, for programming tasks, information analysis and cyber security. According to Bloomberg, Anthropic and its main competitor OpenAI are both preparing for a possible IPO as early as this fall.

OpenAI was valued last March at $852 billion in a fundraising round. According to Bloomberg, the company is expected to soon submit a confidential draft prospectus for an IPO.
