Pork exports jumped 161% and egg exports almost 29% in the first quarter

The exports of agroindustrial products marked, in general, pronounced increases in both volume and value, highlighting among them the shipments of pork and egg products.

In the first case, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries highlighted that the income of the pork chain from shipments abroad had a jump of 161% in the first quarter, reaching the US$6 million.

Although the figure is modest taking into account the magnitude of exports from other agro-industrial complexes, this growth accentuates the upward trend that has been registered in recent years with respect to the sector’s foreign trade.

Likewise, shipments increased in volume 78%for a total of 5,137 tons.

Among the main destinations that receive pork, sausages, edible and non-edible products and by-products from Argentina, the Ivory Coast, China, the Philippines, Congo, Uruguay, Brazil, Hong Kong, Georgia and Paraguay stand out, among the most important.

Currently, the destinations open for the commercialization of pork production are 54.

Regarding exports of eggs and egg productsthe national portfolio showed year-on-year growth of 28,5% in value in the first quarter, for a total of US$10.8 millionwhile in volume, sales reached 1,312 tons, exceeding the same period last year by 8%.

The main destinations were Denmark, Japan, Chile, Austria and North Macedonia. The rest is distributed between Sweden, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador and Mexico.

On the other hand, it should be noted that a few days after the entry into force of the Mercosur-European Union AgreementArgentina covered the total tariff-free quota of 333 tons of whole eggs and yolk – equivalent to fresh eggs – assigned to the block.

Among the egg products exported around the world, the whole egg, the yolk and the albumin powder stand out, whose destination is the food industry of mayonnaise, bread, puddings, pasta and ice cream, among others.
