Newsan grows in the food business and bought a historic fishing company dedicated to a “delicatessen” product

The Newsan Group took a new key step in its diversification strategy by acquiring the company Glaciar Pesquera, with a strong presence in the Patagonian scallops market. With this operation, the group not only strengthens its food division, but also consolidates itself as the main fishing exporter of Argentinanow bringing a product of very high international value to its distribution network in more than 70 countries.

“The controlling shareholder of the Company, together with other buyers with experience in the fishing activity, acquired the share package of Glaciar Pesquera SA from its former owners, Clearwater Seafoods Holdings, Inc., belonging to the Canadian group Clearwater Seafoods, and its founding local partner. On the other hand, the subsidiary Newsan Food SAU established a company in France, called Glaciar France SAS., which acquired the goodwill of Clearwater Seafoods in that country, dedicated to the import, storage, processing and marketing of scallops exported by Glaciar Pesquera SA,” Newsan explained in a statement sent to the CNV.

Furthermore, he maintained that “as part of the consideration for the operation, the Company and the buyers agreed to cause Glaciar Pesquera SA cancel an existing commercial debt with whoever was your indirect controlling companyClearwater Seafoods Limited Partnership, for an approximate value of US$ 11 million.”

Glaciar Pesquera, born in 1995 in Mar del Plata, brings to the Newsan structure a staff of 170 employees, an onshore plant with cold storage rooms in Ushuaia and two state-of-the-art factory ships: the Atlantic Surf III and the Capesante. These vessels allow the sought-after frozen Patagonian scallops to be captured and processed on board, guaranteeing maximum freshness.

Additionally, the company has key added value in higher value-added markets: in 2006, it became the first scallop fishery in the world to receive certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the global gold standard in sustainability.

The purchase also includes an operations center in Francewhich will serve Newsan as a strategic platform to strengthen its logistics and distribution on the European continent.

This movement reinforces the metamorphosis of Newsan, a group that was born strongly linked to the manufacturing of consumer electronics and that Today it has a presence in multiple sectors of the economy. In its traditional business, the group manufactures and markets brands such as Atma, Noblex, Philco, Siam, Allure and Sansei, in addition to being the official distributor in the country of international giants such as Motorola, LG, Hisense, Bosch, Oppo, Marshall and Shark Ninja.

However, the growth of recent years shows a notable acceleration in completely diverse areas. In 2024, the group made a strong blow in the mass consumption market by taking over the marketing of Procter & Gamble brands in Argentina, managing leading labels such as Gillette, Pampers, Always, Downy, Head & Shoulders, Pantene and Oral B. Added to this is its 50% stake in Cdimex, through which it is making strong strides in the cosmetics and fashion business with Elizabeth Arden, Fascino and the perfume lines of Sarkany, Tucci and Bensimon.

In March 2025, Newsan made its formal entry into the energy sector, expanding its frontiers into the generation, transportation and distribution of electrical energy.
