How much does Google feel the billion-dollar fine?
The fine shouldn’t hurt Google much. The Internet company’s advertising business is booming. In the 2025 financial year there were 132.2 billion dollars (almost 116 billion euros). So the penalty doesn’t even matter three percent from Google’s annual profit. Theoretically, the EU Commission can impose fines of up to ten percent of global annual turnover in antitrust proceedings. In the case of Google, with annual sales of $402.8 billion (around €353 billion), that would currently be more than €35 billion.

The investigation is not yet complete.

The Trump administration has recently repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with EU penalties for US technology companies Threatening backdrops constructed. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened punitive tariffs. If the EU wants to participate in the digital economy, it will need data centers, data and access to US hardware and cannot over-regulate and impose huge fines on companies, the US ambassador to the EU recently said. Andrew Puzder.
Is the EU also taking action against other US technology companies?
Since the EU with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and that Digital Services Act (DSA) has imposed stricter rules on large online platforms and strengthened the rights of users, penalties totaling six billion euros imposed on US companies.

- Also the Facebook mother Meta was fined almost 800 million euros.
- Elon Musks X (formerly Twitter) was asked to pay 120 million euros due, among other things, to a lack of transparency in online advertising.
The EU Commission not only wants to use the fines to punish violations of EU law, they also serve as a deterrent measure to ensure compliance with the law, according to the authority.
What happens to the fines? Who do they benefit?
EU competition law stipulates that penalties are included directly in the EU budget should flow. There they are recorded under “other income”. This indirectly reduces the EU contributions of the member states.
