La Jornada: Consumer confidence improved from May to June

Consumer confidence in the country’s economy and that of their families improved in June compared to May, although it remained at a lower level than in the same month of 2025, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported yesterday.

The consumer confidence indicator (CCI), which shows the population’s perception of its current economic situation, as well as its expectations, stood at 43.8 points in the sixth month of the year, which meant a monthly increase of 0.4 points, driven by an advance in the positive response to the possibility of purchasing durable goods in the following months.

“The indicator recovered after falling to its lowest level in more than four years in May,” highlighted Monex analysts.

However, Inegi indicated that the measurement registered a drop of 1.8 points compared to June 2025. With this figure there are 18 consecutive periods of contraction.

Four of the five components had an advance in June compared to May, highlighting the perception of the current economic situation of the household compared to that of 12 months ago, which reached 51.2 points, which represents an increase of 1.2 points compared to May, although it decreased 0.4 points compared to June 2025. Light recovery

Secondly, the current possibilities of the household to make purchases of furniture, television, washing machine and other appliances, compared to a year ago, were located at 30 points and implied an advance of 1.1 points compared to the previous month and an increase of 0.6 points compared to June 2025. The expectations of Mexican families for the next 12 months, compared to the current situation, stood at 56.4 points, which means a drop of one point in their variation monthly and 1.5 less compared to June 2025.

The perception of households about the country’s economic situation in relation to that of 12 months ago stood at 37.5 points, which is an increase of 0.7 compared to May, but a decrease of 3.4 points in the annual variation.

Expectations about the country’s economic situation compared to the current one stood at 43.7 points, showing an increase of 0.3 points compared to last May, but a decrease of 4.4 points compared to June 2025.

In addition, six of the 10 complementary indicators had monthly progress, among them the current savings capacity, the possibilities of buying clothes, shoes, food, etc., compared to those of a year ago, as well as the possibilities of purchasing a new vehicle.

Monex indicated that the indicator showed a moderation in the deterioration and advanced monthly after reaching its lowest confidence level in May. This is due to a slight economic recovery, although dynamism remains low.
