President Claudia Sheinbaum considered that she could meet with her American counterpart, Donald Trump, “when we reach an agreement” in trade negotiations.
“When it is appropriate we will go to the United States to meet with President Trump,” he said yesterday. Likewise, she is considering attending the meeting of the Group of 20 (G-20) as a guest, to be held in Miami.
In her press conference yesterday, the president stated that “there is good communication” with the Republican, with whom “we speak very often. I have spoken with him on the phone 21 times” and the Soccer World Cup “allowed us to meet, first for the draw for participation of the teams in the different groups, and then, in the final.”
He insisted that he seeks “a good relationship with the United States, but that does not mean we are going to stop defending our principles of sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, non-interference, non-subordination, (but) coordination and, at the same time, seek the best possible trade agreement, given the new vision that the government has” of that country.
He highlighted that there is permanent communication between the governments of both countries and personally, via telephone.
