According to an official statement from the Water Authority published on Friday, water supply systems in Israel have stabilized and water supplies to private consumers and the agricultural sector continue as usual and without any restrictions.
Upon completion of an assessment of the situation by specialists from the Directorate of Water Resources and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the crisis in the country’s water supply, caused by the cessation of desalination plants due to water pollution in the Mediterranean Sea by algae, has been resolved.
It is reported that normal water supply is being maintained through a combination of pumping water from wells, supplying water from the Lake Kinneret area and the resumption of desalination plants.
Mekorot plans to refill emergency and storage tanks over the weekend, taking advantage of the reduced demand for water on rest days, and restoring the tanks will ensure uninterrupted operation of the system on weekdays.
Regarding water quality, the Ministry of Health has clearly explained that drinking water coming from taps is completely safe for any domestic use. The report emphasizes that controlled spraying of permitted substances was carried out to combat algae in the marine area. In this regard, the Ministry of Health introduced a ban on fishing exclusively within the area of the sea where the treatment was carried out, as a preventive precaution until the results of the monitoring are received.
