Dietrich Mateschitz: Master of 30 castles, hotels and restaurants

Most recently, the Red Bull boss bought a well-known Schlössl in Salzburg.

“It’s true that I have a weakness for beautiful, unique places – to enjoy them, but also to take care of them,” said Dietrich Mateschitz in April 2017 in an interview with the small newspaper.

Large portfolio

In fact, the Styrian Red Bull billionaire has bought around 30 castles, hotels and restaurants, villas and courtyards in Styria and Salzburg over the past few decades and had them renovated. His real estate empire, which can be found at www.tauroa.at, includes the Seehotel on Grundlsee and the Villa Anna, the Seewiese on Lake Altaussee and the 2,000 hectare Authal forest estate near Bretstein.

Around the Red Bull Ring, Mateschitz bought the Landhotel Schönberghof in Spielberg, the Steirerschlössl in Zeltweg, Schloss Gabelhofen in Fohnsdorf, the Hotel-Restaurant G’schlössl Murtal in Großlobming and the Hotel Hofwirt in Seckau. In addition, there is Admontbichl Castle in Obdach or Thalheim Castle in Pöls. In 2014, Mateschitz acquired Thomas Muster’s vineyard on the Kittenberg in Heimschuh in southern Styria, complete with twelve hectares of land and vineyards.

Hotels for the wealthy

Today, the Kittenberg residence is rented out to well-to-do guests. In 2018, Dietrich Mateschitz Liegenschaften GmbH acquired the former high mountain Hotel Funke on the shore of Lake Prebersee for 2.2 million euros. In the spring of 2022, Mateschitz’ real estate company bought the Maria-Theresien-Schlössl in the Morzg district of Salzburg for ten million euros. The property includes 1.5 hectares of parkland and the main house housed a hotel and restaurant until 2007.

The Red Bull founder’s real estate portfolio also includes the Winterstellgut suite guest house in Annaberg in the Lammertal valley and the Landhaus hotel and restaurant in Appesbach on Lake Wolfgang.
