EU for TikTok: There is still a lot to improve, and time is running out

EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton says that the social service has made it clear For TikTokthat it still has a lot to do if it is going to comply with EU legislation.

Breton said that he recently discussed the matter with TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew’n with.

“I told him that for now there is still a lot to improve in terms of content moderation, overuse and ensuring the safe use of data, especially children’s data,” Breton told France 2 channel, according to Reuters.

Last month, the EU listed 19 large internet platform operators, which from August 2023 must comply with the new rules according to the EU’s digital services act. TikTok is one of these services.

The Digital Services Act obliges the services, among other things, to perform risk management, perform internal and external audits, share data with authorities and researchers, and implement ethical guidelines.

Breton had already urged TikTok a few months ago to bring its business into line with the EU’s digital services regulation.
