56 jobs threatened at chemical company Ineos Phenol in Doel (Beveren-Waas)

Chemical company Ineos Phenol in Doel wants to cut up to 56 jobs in a reorganization. The management announced this intention to the trade unions during a special works council on Thursday morning. 182 people work in the factory.

The reorganization should strengthen the competitive position of the site, the explanation sounds. Ineos Phenol refers in a press release to difficult market conditions with a sharp drop in demand. With the intervention, the company wants to rearrange the production organization, improve work efficiency and make efforts in process technology, energy and logistics.

This means that Ineos Phenol wants to reduce labor costs by 30 percent. This has a “possible impact” on 56 jobs. Management is launching the information and consultation phase provided for in the Renault law to negotiate the restructuring intention with the unions.

Ineos Phenol Doel converts the substance cumene into phenol, acetone and AMS. These basic chemicals are widely used in all kinds of sectors. The site claims to be the largest plant in the world for phenol with a production capacity of 680,000 tons per year.
