Threads now also gets desktop version

Threads, the app with which Meta wants to compete with X, will (finally) get a desktop version tonight. As a result, users will not only be able to log in to their account via the app, but also via a web browser on the computer.

The announced update is one that many Threads users have been waiting for since the launch of the new platform in early July. For the time being, Threads could only be found as a separate app on a smartphone, but soon you will also be able to surf to it via the web on your computer or laptop. The new platform thus comes one step closer to the possibilities of major competitor X, the former Twitter.

According to Meta, users on the desktop version will be able to do almost everything that is possible on the app: log in, send posts to the world, view posts from others and communicate with other users. The company says that even more features will be added in the future.

Since its launch in early July, Threads has had a crazy start. In the first week, the platform already had more than 100 million users, an absolute record. When the hype died down after a few weeks, the Twitter clone suffered a small drop in active users. By meeting the demand for a web version, Meta now hopes to boost its new showpiece again.

Threads is still not available in Europe as Meta is still figuring out how to make the data exchange between Instagram and Threads compliant with EU law.
