Ikea Netherlands stops selling gas hobs

Ikea Netherlands will stop selling gas hobs from January next year. The furniture chain will then only sell induction hobs.

Ikea states that the decision is in line with the national target of having one and a half million homes off gas by 2030. With this step, Ikea wants to encourage consumers to switch to electric cooking. With induction hobs, no combustion gases are released during cooking.

“Ikea Netherlands wants to contribute to a more sustainable life at home and the sale of gas hobs is not in line with that. To accelerate the energy transition in the Netherlands, we must dare to make choices like this,” said a statement from the company.
