In a second attempt, Morena and its allies in the Senate yesterday managed to ratify the appointment of the former governor of Nayarit Antonio Echevarría, as an independent advisor to the board of directors of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), after last October they lacked one vote to endorse the designation.

After the attempt to approve the designation a month ago, the head of the federal Executive sent the designation of Echevarría again to the Senate and now it did reach the required vote of two thirds of those present in the plenary session, obtaining 64 votes in favor and 27 against the opposition.

Morena senator Ricardo Monreal rejected the Plural Group’s argument that designations of this type are awards for former governors who gave the seat to Morena in past electoral processes.

He highlighted that Echevarría’s behavior was respectful of the popular will. What happened in Nayarit was an impressive social movement that caused change and that the cherry game would win. Even if Echevarría had wanted to, he would not have been able to stop the mobilization in favor of Morena, Monreal stressed.

Senator Emilio Álvarez Icaza said that dedication and disloyalty cannot be rewarded and above all, one cannot command an advance message for the next electoral processregarding the fact that those who do not defend their project and their government can be rewarded.

He pointed out that he is not asking any president or actor to violate the law, but rather to have democratic behavior.

Previously, the Senate approved the appointment of Guadalupe Espinoza Sauceda and Larisa Ortiz Quintero as permanent magistrates of the Superior Agrarian Court, as well as Leonardo Rodarte Dávila as permanent judge of the Unitary Agrarian Court.

Senator José Narro, from Morena, called for the Executive to send the missing appointments in this type of courts to the upper house. There are more than 10 vacancies of magistrates that need to be appointed promptly and expeditiously so that they really do justice in the field, he pointed out.
