The Houthis launched missiles at a tanker partially owned by Idan Ofer

The Houthi rebels continue their attacks, and today (Wednesday) they hit with two missiles the tanker Ardmore Encounter, which was sailing with the flag of the Marshall Islands on board and is owned by the Irish company Ardmore Shipping, which also operates it. Idan Ofer owns holdings in the company, and in January of this year he sold about half of his holdings in the Irish company, which is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Before the sale, his holdings were 10.5%, after which they dropped to 4.9%. Ofer made the move after the share price of Ardmore Shipping more than doubled.

The attack against the tanker took place north of Bab al-Mandab and about 50 nautical miles west of the Houthis’ central port of Hodeidah. The Ro-Ro ship “Galaxy Leader”, owned by Rami Unger, was taken to the same port and hijacked on November 19. Five days after that incident, an Iranian-made Shahad-136 UAV attacked the container ship CMA CGM Symi. The ship is owned by another company of Idan Ofer, Eastern Pacific Shipping.

Regarding the current attack on the Hardmore Encounter, the company stated that “no one was on the platform, and all crew members are safe. The ship is fully operational, and there was no damage to her dignity.” As part of the same incident, an American warship also intercepted a Houthi drone. The Ardmore Encounter tanker was carrying jet fuel from MRPL, which is jointly owned by the oil giant and the National Petroleum Corporation of India. The cargo, which left Mangalore, India, was destined for the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Or to a border town located on the eastern coast of Sweden.

Earlier it was revealed in Globes that the National Security Headquarters urgently contacted Israel’s ports yesterday demanding that they remove from the ports’ websites the information about the expected arrival of ships to them. “As soon as it becomes clear in the future that this creates a problem that was not taken into account, the situation can be immediately returned to normal,” the letter stated.
