“The cadastre has not yet renamed the construction land into agricultural, which will increase the tax liabilities of the owners. The change in the status of the land was done at the end of 2020 due to the needs of mines and construction of facilities, and the owners of the land of general interest land, “Alimpic said.

The Government of Serbia, under the pressure of numerous protests of environmental associations, on January 20 this year abolished the Office for Determining the Spatial Plan of the Special Purpose Area for the implementation of the “Jadar” project, after which the competent authorities should repeal all individual acts project. After that, the decision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on determining the scope and content of the Study on Environmental Impact Assessment of the “Jadar” project was annulled.

Alimpić said that the company Rio Tinto suspended the activities on the preparation of the opening of the mine, that there are no machines on the field, but that it did not fulfill the request of environmental movements to repair the damage caused by opening almost 600 wells for research.

“We are not sure that Rio Tinto will not continue the realization of the ‘Jadar’ project, after the elections if the SNS wins, led by Aleksandar Vučić,” said Alimpić.

She added that environmental associations filed a complaint against the Jadar project in September last year, along with two international associations from the UK and America, Earth Thrive and the Earth Law Center, to the Berne Convention Secretariat, which Serbia is a signatory to. wild species of flora and fauna and conservation of their habitats.

The “Jadar” project affected an area that is under protection because it contains about 60 species of rare birds and rare plants.

Alimpić said that the Government of Serbia, in its statement before the Secretariat of the Bern Convention, admitted for the first time that the project of the lithium mine included and protected the area.

The project of underground exploitation of lithium and pine deposits “Jadar” was supposed to be located on the cadastral parcels of the villages of Gornje Nedeljice, Brnjac, Veliko Selo, Jarebice, Slatina, Stupnica and Sturica on the territory of the town of Loznica and the municipality of Krupanj.

A group of associations and initiatives, the Regulatory Institute for Renewable Energy and the Environment (RERI), the Požega Initiative, the Kreni-Promeni Association, Ne damo Jadar, Zaštitimo Jadar i Radjevinu, the Podrinje Anti-Corruption Team and the Coalition Against Corruption appealed against the decision. environment.
