27 thousand Gulf standards and technical regulations

The GCC Standardization Organization participates with the Arab standardization bodies in celebrating the Arab Standardization Day, which falls on March 25 of each year, and which this year comes under the slogan “Standardization for a prosperous economy and a vibrant and sustainable society.”
Saud bin Nasser Al-Khasibi, Chairman of the GCC Standardization Organization, pointed out that the slogan of celebrating the Arab Standardization Day for this year came out of belief in the great importance of standardization and its great role in developing lifestyles for all, and its direct relationship to supporting the quality of life in our societies and providing safety and sustainability, adding that standardization is a tool. It is important to enhance sustainability, and commitment to standardization activities and requirements leads to achieving sustainability, as standardization works to establish legislation, regulations, and standard specifications for environmentally responsible practices.

He added that the Gulf Standardization Organization has been working since its inception, in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies in member states and through its partnerships with various international and regional organizations working in the field of standardization, to prepare and develop Gulf standard specifications and technical regulations that support the achievement of a prosperous economy and a vibrant and sustainable society for the Gulf society by contributing to achieving Public safety, environmental protection, facilitating trade exchange, and supporting the Gulf economy. To date, it has issued more than 27 thousand Gulf standards and technical regulations covering various goods and products.

  • Activities and requirements

Al-Khusaibi stated that applying standardization activities and requirements helps achieve higher levels of quality for goods, products and services by ensuring competition between producers and manufacturers, and also provides protection for members of society by ensuring the safety and quality of goods, products and services. Pointing out that standardization plays a major role in achieving a prosperous economy by improving the quality of products, supporting national products, reducing technical obstacles and facilitating trade exchange.

It also enhances sustainability by preparing legislation and standard specifications for environmentally responsible practices, and also contributes to protecting the environment by following up on the application of standard specifications and regulations. And technical legislation, which contributes – in addition to providing health and safety – to preserving the environment by reducing waste and pollution, reducing the rate of carbon dioxide emission, enhancing energy and fuel efficiency, ensuring sustainability in the supply and use of materials, as well as rationalizing water, in addition to meeting production and use requirements. Clean and renewable energy to preserve the environment.

The Chairman of the Standardization Organization explained that the Authority began at the beginning of the current year 2024 to coordinate and cooperate with the standardization bodies in member states on the phased implementation of the technical regulations for tools to rationalize water consumption, according to each country’s action plan, in view of the vital role of this regulation in preserving water resources and ensuring their sustainability.

At the end of his speech, Al-Khasibi praised the great efforts made by international, regional and national organizations in the field of standardization, and thanked the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining. He also extended his thanks and gratitude to the member states of the Authority, all those working in the fields of standardization and its various activities in the Arab standardization bodies, and all those who support the Authority and standardization in all its activities and fields.

It should be noted that March 25 of each year coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology, which was established on March 25, 1968 in Cairo as one of the bodies of the League of Arab States, and whose activities were merged within the framework of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development and Mining in 1988, and the day was celebrated The Arab Organization for Standardization for the first time on March 25, 1999. The Arab standardization bodies within the framework of the Higher Arab Committee for Standardization affiliated with the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining annually choose a logo to celebrate this occasion.
