Regulating the right to strike in transport, reform impossible?

With each social movement of railway workers at crucial moments such as vacation departures or end-of-year celebrations, the issue comes back to the table. Faced with the anger of users, parliamentarians and ministers are making “regulation of the right to strike” in public transport their battle horse. This is once again the case following the mobilization of controllers during the winter holidays. The senator (UDI), Hervé Marseille, tabled a bill, which was adopted this Wednesday, April 3 in the morning in committee.

The text provides for the creation of 30 days during which transport employees “whose assistance is essential to ensure the proper functioning of the service” would be deprived of their right to strike during peak hours. These days “would be defined in advance and would target departures on vacation, weekends or even elections,” explains its rapporteur Philippe Tabarot (LR). Major events for France, such as major sporting competitions, would also be protected. »
