Antik Almoneda, the fair that is a trip to the past and for all budgets

Furniture from another era, antique jewelry and costume jewelry, clothing, bags, lamps, rugs and even some archeology pieces give life to this business that has resisted recent economic attacks. “It has remained stable in recent years. It is something that, of course, has not gone out of fashion and that lasts over time,” explains Ana Rodríguez, director of Antik Almoneda, the spring epicenter of those passionate about these items, which started this weekend at Ifema Madrid and which will end on April 14.

At the meeting you can see everything from objects designed in the 40s of the last century to the 70s. “The venue will bring together thousands of proposals thanks to the participation of 80 antique dealers, auctions and galleries. We expect between 16,000 and 17,000 visitors to attend,” highlights the person responsible for the event. The pieces evoke a time gone by and are more relevant today than ever.

The fair is a universe of works of art for all tastes and budgets. “It is a space where you will find many types of objects at very good prices,” she says. For example, Miguel Cebrián Antigüedades (from Zaragoza) bets on pieces with history, furniture and high-decoration items. This is the case of a chair made up of 10 units from a palace, as well as an Aragonese pine table with its original polychrome from the 18th century.

A piece of furniture that used to be made by carpenters during the first decade of the 1800s will also be presented. “It comes from a town in the Huesca area, where we normally move, especially in country houses, palaces and workshops in the Aragón area. It is made of pine wood and is a piece that tells the story of a trade, the carpentry of that time,” highlights Miguel Cebrián, who has been participating in the Madrid fair for years.

During the days of the event, which began on April 6, an open day will be dedicated on Tuesday the 9th, with free access for all visitors. These days, tables and decoration will be the focus of visitors’ attention, as the fair has a wide selection of high-quality furniture: from a Louis Philipe chest of drawers dating back to 1820 to creations by renowned designers. The 19th century piece is from Merale Antiques, which also offers French and Portuguese cupboards, dining tables, mirrors, armchairs, chairs, cutlery, tableware and decorative objects from other periods. “The fair is a showcase,” highlights Jorge de la Fuente, painter, sculptor and furniture designer and head of Merale. “Madrid is the most important market for this business. Being at the fair is a way to get in touch, not only with our direct clients, but also with the decorators and interior designers,” he clarifies.

Additionally, other decorative objects will be offered such as glass vases from France, authenticated by Emile Gallé in the style Art Nouveau, and Limoges porcelain tableware, as well as Chinese and European porcelain, glass objects (Murano, Whitefriar), silver, cutlery sets and table linens. Attendees will be able to view and purchase a wide variety of works of art by artists such as Eduardo Chillida, Manolo Valdés, Joan Miró, Xavier Mascaró, Ramón Casas Carbó, Darío de Regoyos, Menchu ​​Gal and many more. Antik Almoneda creates a complete mosaic of pieces from the past full of history. “Visitors will see that old and exclusive is not synonymous with expensive. In this edition, there are two signs of identity that define it: its affordable prices and quality,” says the person in charge of the meeting. The pieces presented, adds Rodríguez, are valued by a committee of experts who verify the age and information related to the object.

Jewelry and bijouterie

For jewelry and costume jewelery enthusiasts, the fair also presents a wide variety of pieces, such as a bow-shaped brooch made of platinum, diamonds and baguettes, and an Omega bracelet watch in gold with diamonds, both from the period. de Chevalier, circa 1940. Additionally, a gold and diamond mesh bracelet from the 1930s will be on display.

Ruiz Linares’ space will present a careful selection of antiques, objects and furniture, including popular arts from Granada and Spain, highlighting a 17th century Spanish table. Joan & Joana Gallery will exhibit a cameo glass paste vase signed by Emile Galle, as well as other objects art Deco y Art Nouveau. The Luis Carvajal gallery will show a pair of 19th century Venetians and neoclassical Medici glasses. Those who admire Freddie Mercury will have the opportunity to see five pieces of clothing that the singer wore on stage during the Queen concerts between 1982 and 1985. In addition, two photographs and an official congratulatory letter from the group will be exhibited, all They are signed by the band members, along with Freddie Mercury’s personal handkerchief.

Antik Almoneda has a long history. Until recently it was known as Antik Passion Almoneda and previously as Almoneda. It was born in 1995 with the aim of establishing a unique space in Madrid where lovers of art, antiques and collecting could find unique pieces. Since its first edition, the fair has established itself as a benchmark in the Madrid cultural calendar, attracting visitors from all over the world.
