Government approves reconstruction plan for Western Negev, allocates 19 billion shekels

The Israeli government approved on April 17 the allocation of 19 billion shekels over the next five years for the restoration and development of settlements on the border with the Gaza Strip. Over the next five years, another 18 billion shekels will be allocated for the same purposes. The program was prepared by the Tkuma Office.

“We are investing a very large amount – 19 billion shekels – in the development of settlements around Gaza over several generations. We will invest in housing, infrastructure, education, employment, medicine and much more. The Hamas terrorists wanted to eradicate us – we will eradicate them and take root. We will build the Land of Israel and defend our country,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

The government promises to transform the area into a center for science and sports through the expansion of Sapir College and the southern “Wingate Institute”. Advanced agriculture will be developed here using the latest technologies. The plan provides for attracting a new population here and creating conditions for harmonious development.

The program was developed with the participation of local authorities and will be implemented with their participation. It provides for the construction of housing, the development of infrastructure, the economy and tourism, and the expansion of employment. Another priority is concern for security, both personal and state.
