Vinitaly: Coldiretti, leading wine for agri-food exports

“It was a Vinitaly with comforting numbers in a dramatic moment that the world is going through with two war clashes. The wine sector linked to exports has recorded a growth of 188% in 20 years with wine exports which are almost tripled and are now worth 7.8 billion euros, the first item of Made in Italy agri-food abroad”. This is how the president of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini comments on the positive results of the 56th edition of Vinitaly, underlining the emergence of a new generation of producers.

The wine sector is the most popular among the businesses under 35 with 5500 Italian farmers producing wine – explains Coldiretti – In practice, one company in ten among those run by boys and girls owns a vineyard. The phenomenon that characterized this 2024 edition is certainly that of wine tourism with 6 million nights spent among the vineyards in 2023 by Italian and foreign wine tourists in agritourism facilities, bed & breakfasts and holiday homes near vineyards, underlines Coldiretti. Significant, adds Coldiretti, are the data of 15 million tourists who have had experiences in the cellar and the 2.5 billion euro turnover of wine tourism in Italy.
