Removal of rubble from the site of the historic building of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange

Workers continue to remove rubble from the site of the historic former stock exchange, Boersen, in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, a few days after a fire broke out that destroyed about half of the 17th-century building.

The work of removing scaffolding, masonry and the copper roof in the burned part of the historic stock exchange building continued.

The building burned last Tuesday, causing its famous 54-meter-high tower to collapse.

The building housed the Danish Chamber of Commerce, was located near Parliament, and was undergoing renovation work to celebrate the 400th anniversary of its construction.

The Copenhagen Stock Exchange was built by order of King Christian IV between 1619 and 1640, making it one of the oldest buildings in the city. (agencies)
