Elon Musk flew to China for a surprise visit

Tesla’s CEO has arrived in Beijing on Sunday to meet with the Chinese authorities.

Tesla’s managing director Elon Musk has arrived on Sunday in Beijing, China for a surprise visit. The news agency reports about it Reuters.

According to Reuters, during his visit, Musk will meet with Chinese authorities regarding the autopilot system.

For Tesla, the Chinese market is its second largest globally. However, the autopilot system has not yet been implemented in China, despite customer requests.

According to Reuters, Musk’s purpose is also to discuss the use of data collected in China to develop algorithms for the autopilot system. Tesla has been collecting data from its cars operating in the country with the help of the authorities since 2021, but has not received data from the Chinese authorities.

Tesla has sold a total of 1.7 million cars in China in just over ten years, and the Shanghai factory is one of the company’s largest.

Earlier in April, Musk wrote the messaging service in Xthat the autopilot system could be introduced in China “possibly very soon”.

Tesla’s autopilot system has been in the eye of the storm recently. In the research report published this week by the US Federal Transportation Safety Agency, it is said that significant safety flaws were found in the system.

According to the report, the autopilot system has been involved in a large number of crashes that could have been prevented.
