Israel Defense: The German Navy is interested in purchasing Israeli Hermes 900 UAVs

The German Navy is interested in purchasing the Hermes 900 UAV produced by the Israeli company Elbit, writes the Israel Defense website.

A spokesman for German airline Lufthansa announced this week that the company will collaborate with Israeli company Elbit Systems on military drones through its subsidiary Lufthansa Technik.

Elbit declined to comment.

In January 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two companies Lufthansa Technik and Elbit Systems, but there is no official contract between them yet.

The publication says the German Navy is interested in concluding an agreement for the supply and maintenance of eight Hermes 900 StarLiner UAVs.

Lufthansa Technik will be responsible for maintenance and crew training, while Elbit will be responsible for the production of these UAVs. The cost of the contract has not been disclosed.

This is the first UAV maintenance project for Lufthansa Technik, which has previously supported NATO aircraft fleets such as F-35 fighter jets, Chinook transport helicopters and Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, Israel Defense notes.
