The selection of the operator of two tram lines in Gush Dan is again postponed – Chinese companies threaten legal action

The state-owned company NETA has announced another postponement of the tender for the maintenance of the “purple” and “green” tram lines in Gush Dan, the construction of which is due to be completed in 2027 and 2028.

The tender was supposed to take place in May 2023, but was postponed several times, including due to the war and fears that Western companies would refuse to participate in it.

This time the tender date has been moved from May 30 to June 19.

Chinese state-owned companies China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and Guangzhou Metro Corporation, part of consortiums that have already submitted bids for the tender, have sent NETA a letter warning that they will go to court to claim damages if the tender is canceled .

Let us recall that earlier the Chinese companies CRCC and CRRC tried to challenge in court NETA’s decision not to allow them to participate in the final stage of the tender for the construction of the “purple” and “green” tram lines in Gush Dan. Then the tender commission concluded that the bid was too cheap beyond economic feasibility, but the consortium argued that the real reason for the refusal was US pressure to exclude the sanctioned CRCC from infrastructure tenders.
