A meme about the shiba breed Kabosu has been circulating on the internet for 14 years.

Japanese The Kabosu dog known for the Doge meme has died, according to the dog’s owner Atsuko Sato on his blog. This is reported by the news agency AFP.

“He fell asleep quietly while I stroked him,” Sato writes.

The Doge meme was born in 2010, when Sato published a picture of Kabosu, a shiba breed, with his paws crossed on the sofa in his blog.

A photo of a fluffy shiba looking at the camera with a wry expression went viral on the Reddit discussion site. Over the years, one of the internet’s most famous memes has been born from it.

Inspired by the meme, the dogecoin cryptocurrency was also born, with Kabosu’s image as its symbol. Originally founded as a joke, dogecoin is now the eighth most valuable cryptocurrency.

 

 

The image known as the Doge meme is also the symbol of the dogecoin cryptocurrency.

Kabosun the exact age is unknown because it came to its owner as a found dog from a puppy mill. However, the owner Sato estimates that the female dog was about 18 years old.

This is a very long life for a shiba, although dogs of the same breed often live to be over 10 years old.

“I think Kabo-chan was the happiest dog in the world. And I was the happiest owner,” Sato writes in his blog.

In 2022, Kabosu fell ill with leukemia and liver disease. However, its health improved with the support of fans and “invisible prayers”, Sato told AFP in an interview.
