Haselsteiner and Zöchling want to expand logistics centre in Vienna-Aspern

Construction tycoon Hans Peter Haselsteiner and Viennese entrepreneur Stephan Zöchling want to further expand their logistics center in Vienna’s 22nd district. According to Zöchling, the two investors are investing 60 million euros to build a logistics hall with a volume of 250,000 cubic meters and a large-scale photovoltaic system on 4.1 hectares.

To the north, the new hall is adjacent to the former Konsum logistics center (110,000 square meters of rentable space), which Haselsteiner and Zöchling took over in autumn 2017. The entire property covers 23.6 hectares and belongs to the City of Vienna, which has granted the investor duo a building permit until the end of 2055.

Green facades and roofs

“The planned logistics hall significantly strengthens the existing operational use and supports the long-term preservation of logistics use at this highly developed location,” says the documents of the responsible municipal department. “The project is compatible with the objectives of urban planning and does not impair the local townscape.” To revitalize the local microclimate, the hall roofs are designed as green flat roofs. At the same time, all facades that are not needed for lighting will be “covered with ground-based plants.” The City of Vienna will also build a new road connection because at least some of the buildings “must be expected to be in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

“In the long term, the logistics site will have a direct connection to the high-level road network in order to be able to direct logistics traffic away from residential areas,” says the documents of the civil engineer commissioned. “The planned extension of Lavaterstrasse to the north will lead into Stadtstrasse in the future and, among other things, take on the development function for the mixed-use commercial area.”

Dissenting voice

The Green councillor Heidemarie Sequenz voted against the project in the planning committee because she received no information about how this new road junction would be implemented. K. Möchel, D. Schreiber
