ICQ messenger will stop working on June 26

The VK company plans to close the ICQ messenger in a month; the service will suspend operation on June 26. The company’s press service reports this.

VK said that the company will focus on developing “VK Messenger” for users and corporate services based on the VK WorkSpace platform for business. “VK Messenger is a free and fast service for communication. The service allows you to communicate on any platforms and in any convenient format,” the press service said in a statement.

ICQ employees will join the teams of these two products.

The ICQ messenger was created by the Israeli company Mirabilis in 1996. In 2010, it was purchased by Mail.ru Group (later to become VK). In turn, Mirabilis was acquired by the American company America Online (AOL) for $407 million in 1998.
