The Government grants Spanish nationality to the Russian pianist Grigory Sokolov

The Government has granted Spanish nationality by letter of naturalization to the Russian pianist Grigory Sokolov, according to the Official State Gazette (BOE) published this Wednesday.

It has been at the proposal of the Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, in view of the exceptional circumstances that occur in Mr. Grigory Sokolov, and after deliberation by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on July 5, 2022.

This concession will produce effects with the requirements, conditions and terms provided in the Civil Code. Likewise, it grants it the status of common civil neighborhood.

Born in Saint Petersburg, Sokolov began his training at the age of five and at sixteen he already began his international career by receiving the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky contest in Moscow.

The 72-year-old Russian musician has performed in the main concert halls and festivals in Europe, as a soloist with such important orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the London Philharmonic, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks or the Munich Philharmonic, among others; before deciding to focus exclusively on just giving recitals.
