Latvia asks the EU to ban Russia from the Venice Biennale

Latvia will ask the EU Foreign Affairs Council to take sides “prohibit” to Russia to participate in the Venice Biennale. He announces it Artjoms Ursulskissecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, on the sidelines of the EU Council in Luxembourg.

“There is a specific issue – he says – that Latvia brings to the agenda today: Russia’s participation in this year’s Vienna Biennale. Russia kills Ukrainian civilians every day and is effectively destroying European cultural heritage. Therefore, we believe that collective action is necessary and we will ask our friends to support us.”

“We must take a common position – he continues – to ban Russia from participating in the Venice Biennale. They are not ready to end the war, and this is certainly not the time to grant them international credibility. This is one of the ways in which they are trying to influence our thinking here in Europe”.
