Helsingin Sanomat’s printed magazine is being renewed

Helsinki Sanomat’s paper magazine will be published from Wednesday, April 22. The changes are also visible in the visual magazine and also affect the content of the weekly HS Viiko published on Fridays.

A visible change for the reader will be noticed right at the beginning of the magazine, when the editorial page A 2 is immediately followed by the main news page, delivered on one page, which presents the entire magazine’s offer in a variety of ways.

An opening is currently reserved for the editorial section and the main news summary. In this respect, the structure of the magazine, which is now receding, has been inherited from the beginning of HS’s tabloid reform in 2013.

From now on, HS will publish one long editorial every day, which is the magazine’s clear and well-reasoned position on the topical theme at any given time.

Ville Rannan the cartoons move from the old editorial opening to the opinion section to the B section of the magazine. On the same pages, those previously published in connection with the editorials are also published Lasse Rantanen drawings.

The magazine Opinion writings by journalists will be removed from the news sections of part A. The goal is to respond to the readers’ wish that opinionated texts should not be mixed with news. The reform thus clarifies the difference between news stories and opinionated journalism.

Part A will continue to publish news analyzes that support and deepen the news. On sports pages, you can still find comments naturally connected to matches or other performances of journalists.

Opinionated content is also separated from news on HS’s digital channels.

Print magazine In the future, part B will become an even more comprehensive reading package, when a new insight website will start alongside the cultural content. Saska Saarikoski led by the opinion section aims to be Finland’s highest quality social discussion forum.

The website publishes, among other things, columns from both HS’s own editors and guest authors. On Sundays, an extensive essay writing that digs deeper into current affairs is published. It is precisely on Sunday that the vision section is at its most abundant.

Right also new is the high-level literature website dominating Saturday’s B-section, which offers both author interviews and book reviews focused on Saturday. The editorial work of the magazine’s literary section is led by the news manager Aino Miikkulainen.

The Sunday pages will continue unchanged in the reform. In the future, lifestyle content will be moved from Saturday to reading on other days of the week.

Earlier this year, the magazine’s financial contents were already published on the HS Visio pages. The publication of translated stories from the New York Times and Der Spiegel, which started last fall, will also continue every week.
