Senator for Culture Stefan Evers: When the to-do list explodes

Und, what’s next in the quagmire of Berlin’s cultural policy? Finance Senator Stefan Evers (CDU) will take over the culture department – a provisional arrangement until the election in September. The resignation of short-term Senator Sarah Wedl-Wilson (independent) last Friday was more a continuation of the ongoing crisis than a solution. Wedl-Wilson’s predecessor Joe Chialo (CDU), a charming amateur, was in office for just two years. After eleven months, Wedl-Wilson stumbled over her legal violations in the funding affair. Now Evers has to manage the business somehow for the next five months. The length of time spent in cultural administration has halved from senator to senator. But the limited half-life of officials, the short-winded nature of their politics and the resulting loss of trust are still the smallest problem of Berlin’s cultural policy.
