The National Dance Company presents the absolute premiere of ‘Struere’ at Centro Danza Matadero

Centro Danzaré Matadero hosts the absolute premiere of the original diptych ‘to build’new contemporary proposal of the National Dance Company (INAEM) which will be on display from May 26 to 31 in Nave 11 of this space in the Culture, Tourism and Sports Area.

‘to build’ is a program composed of two newly created pieces by key figures of contemporary dance in Spain: MASA, by Luz Arcas; and TABLERO, by Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa (Kor’sia), the Madrid City Council reports in a statement.

Both works, conceived specifically for the National Dance Company directed by Muriel Romero, share a reflection on the common as an engine of creation. The title ‘Struere’, from the Latin ‘to put together, build, order’, defines a program conceived as a structure in process: a construction that unfolds on stage through the encounter between bodies, languages ​​and sensibilities.

‘MASS’ and ‘BOARD’ dialogue from different, but complementary perspectives, and configure a shared territory in which bodies are organized, affected and transformed.

With ‘Struere’, the National Dance Company expands its contemporary repertoire with three established creators who continue to promote new ways of thinking and constructing dance today.

From the point of view of Luz Arcas, collective force becomes scenic material, while Russo and de Rosa propose a sensitive architecture of space and movement where the choreographic is built in layers, relationships and tensions.

TWO ABSOLUTE PREMIERES IN DIALOGUE

With ‘MASA’, Luz Arcas (2024 National Dance Award) proposes a piece that places collective strength at the center of the scene, exploring the body as a shared territory and in constant transformation.

The artist emphasizes the idea of ​​the community as a physical, symbolic and political force. The piece is presented as a “pictorial trance” that explores the mass as a living, mutable and contradictory organism: from devotion to revolt, from communion to chaos. On stage, bodies multiply, dissolve and reorganize, generating an experience that “overflows the individual to be situated in the collective.”

The trajectory of Arcas, “one of the most prominent creators of contemporary dance in Spain, is marked by the investigation of the body as a space of memory, conflict and transformation“. Since 2009 he has been present in the most important theaters and festivals with his dance company La Phármaco.

In ‘TABLERO’, Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa propose a reflection on the construction of the common based on the idea of ​​the ‘square’ as a symbolic space.

His piece constructs a landscape in continuous change: a structure that is assembled and disassembled, where each gesture leaves a mark and each arrangement preserves traces of the previous one. The work thus proposes a vision of culture as a living practice in which identity, memory and community are generated in the present.

The work of Russo and Rosa is characterized by “understand the body as a tool of thought and transformation through scenic devices that open new forms of perception and experience.”

Russo and de Rosa were part of the National Dance Company as dancers and staged their first works within the CND choreographic workshops, subsequently developing a brilliant choreographic career at an international level as Kor’sia.

“TABLERO’ closes a circle in the career of these artists with this return to ‘home’. The premiere of ‘Struere’ takes place after the signing of a collaboration agreement between Centro Danza Matadero and the National Dance Company, which will lead both institutions to collaborate closely in this and future seasons in the promotion and promotion of knowledge, practice and dissemination of dance,” he highlighted.

This agreement is materialized, among other things, through new joint creation projects and educational and training activities.
