Sánchez mourns the death of Josefina Molina and bids farewell to her as a “pioneer of Spanish cinema and cultural reference”

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has lamented the death this Saturday of the filmmaker Josefina Molina, whom he has defined as “a pioneer of Spanish cinema and a reference for our culture”, highlighting that “her legacy will remain forever in our memory and in the history of cinema.”

Sánchez has thus expressed his recognition of the career of the film director, who died in Madrid this Saturday, May 30, at the age of 89. Molina received the Goya of Honor in 2012.

As specified by the Film Academy in a note, also the honorary patron of the Film Academy Foundation, the woman from Córdoba was “one of the few women of her generation who was able to dedicate herself to directing and who tried to make cinema a space where women could also feel represented.”

The Chief Executive wanted to pay tribute to a figure who has left a significant mark on the national film industry, and has underlined his importance in the development of Spanish cinema and his contribution to the country’s cultural heritage.
