The Il Vittoriale degli Italiani Foundation of Gardone Riviera (Brescia), which hosts the house-museum of Gabriele d’Annunzio, has activated a specific project as part of the Art Bonus to support recovery and restoration interventions following the violent wave of bad weather that hit Garda and the Vittoriale degli Italiani itself on 17 July, causing extensive damage to the monumental and landscape heritage,

The damage estimate, which is still being updated, exceeds 5 million euros. Citizens, individuals and companies can contribute to the recovery of damaged assets, benefiting from the tax breaks provided by current legislation. «The Vittoriale is everyone’s heritage and today we ask everyone to help us protect it and restore it intact for the future. Patronage is a concrete form of participation in the protection of culture and the Art Bonus offers us – with an important tax relief for donors – an important tool to transform this participation into real help”, declared the president Giordano Bruno Guerri.

The damage affects various areas of the complex: from the Regia Nave Puglia, where the main mast was broken, to the Laghetto delle Danze, with damage to the historic balustrades and the water drainage works; from the Vallette, where 31 historic cypress trees were uprooted and landslides occurred, to Villa Mirabella and the historic roads, affected by the fall of trees and instabilities. Further landslides finally affected the slopes of Casa Fraole and the bow of the Nave Puglia, where urgent consolidation operations are necessary. The intervention program includes conservative restoration works, static and hydrogeological consolidation, the reconstruction of the damaged elements and the restoration of the historical arboreal heritage, with the aim of restoring full integrity and usability to the monumental complex. “Patronage is a gesture of care towards heritage and the future: it means choosing to protect today what future generations will still be able to know and experience. Through the Art Bonus, the Vittoriale offers its supporters the possibility of contributing to the rebirth of a unique place, so that the wound of the storm can be transformed into a new collective gesture of love for beauty”, underlines Guerri.
