About vulnerability, losing one’s footing in life and finding hope.

5 January formed Sct. Luke’s Church on Frederiksberg in Copenhagen, the setting for a musical service where Hugo Helmig’s songs were interpreted.

Over 150 participated. Among other things, Hugo Helmig’s father, Thomas Helmig, mother, Renée Toft Simonsen, and his siblings.

– We did not expect Hugo Helmig’s family to show up at all. But I was very, very touched that they would come. It confirmed to me that we were doing the right thing. That we hadn’t offended anyone by doing the music service already now, Bettina Tranber continues.

The family itself declined to answer questions when approached by Ekstra Bladet.

Full of hope
Hugo Helmig died on 23 November in his apartment in Copenhagen. He became 24 years old.

It was Hugo Helmig’s father, Thomas Helmig, who confirmed Hugo Helmig’s death in a post on Instagram.

‘On the last evening of your all-too-short life, the two of us sat together on the sofa in your flat. We ate and watched ‘Notting Hill’ and we talked and we talked. You were so full of hopes, dreams and plans for the future. I was with you all night, and while you slept, your little heart gave up,’ wrote Thomas Helmig, among other things.
