Great success for ‘Swing’, the installation by Stefano Boeri Interiors, protagonist of ‘The Amazing Playground’, a large interactive and experiential space signed by Amazon as part of the Interni Design Re-Evolution exhibition-event.
The collective swing located in the courtyard of the Pharmacy of the University of Milan, from 17 to 26 April, recorded a total of 95,000 visitors. Attracting both adults and children, Swing reached a peak of 17,800 admissions on Saturday 22 April.
The large swing, made up of 36 seats, was intended to stimulate reflection on the value of free time. In fact, visitors are also encouraged by a Public Music Program, in collaboration with the Fondazione I Pomeriggi Musicali. Live music performances were held inside the circular swing from 18 April to 21 April.
The project by Stefano Boeri Interiors draws inspiration from early 20th-century Spanish Surrealism and the American Circus in Madrid, where the protagonists were some performances by artists who read while sitting on a swing, playing on the ambiguity of an oratory literally “suspended” between humor and delirium, joy and culture.
The swing was therefore an opportunity to rediscover the pleasure of free time, lightness and fun, becoming a symbol of man who faces the world with newfound spontaneity and in harmony with the surrounding environment.
For Amazon, the Milan design week was also a precious opportunity to talk about its commitment to sustainability, starting with the national urban, peri-urban and extra-urban forestation project of Parco Italia, promoted by Amazon Italy and developed by Stefano Boeri Architects and AlberItalia, which aims to extend, implement, connect, protect and sustainably manage Italy’s natural capital and its biodiversity.
Inside the Cortile della Farmacia, in addition to interacting with the installation, visitors also had the opportunity to discover a selection of products available on Amazon.it, including design furnishings for the home, Climate Pledge Friendly products, which satisfy sustainability standards and help preserve the environment, and Made in Italy products from Italian small and medium-sized enterprises. In the courtyard, Amazon also presented technological solutions that facilitate the experience of buying furniture products.
The structure of Swing is made up of a set of modular systems, assembled to form a large carousel of colored swings. 3 seats, for each of the 12 modules, all of which can be reconfigured in other shapes and places and each consisting of a main structure duly ballasted in tubular metal joined together to support the swing. The LED strips that crown the upper part of the structure are a clear reminder of the game and have made the atmosphere suggestive even during the night hours, illuminating the entire Pharmacy Courtyard.
The entire structure was designed with a view to circularity: the materials chosen (steel and wood for the seats) can be reused in other contexts thanks to the possibility of disassembling and reassembling the individual modules, both respecting the original circular configuration and reinventing its shape and size according to the design needs and places.
