Johnny, money, sex, plagiarism… Gad Elmaleh reveals himself like never before in his new show

Suddenly, in the middle of the show, he plays… a candle. A movement of the bust, neck, shoulders. The illusion is stunning, the moment full of charm. At 52, Gad Elmaleh has the flame. Perhaps more than ever. In the wake of his previous show, which marked his return to France after an American interlude and a controversy for plagiarism, the Moroccan-Canadian comedian did not wait long before hitting the road again with his seventh opus, “Lui- same”, which we discovered in preview this Tuesday March 26 in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin).

The tour may well be off to a flying start in terms of ticketing with a slew of Zéniths already announced for 2025 in its sights, but the show is not playing the card of grandiloquence, of falsely spectacular. Rather than show off, Gad Elmaleh prefers wit and continues, in the continuity of his last film with surprise success (“Reste un peu”, in 2022), a skillful work of laying bare, accompanied here by Roman Frayssinet, chef of the new generation of French stand-up with whom he collaborated on the writing of his new jokes.
