‘Open House Rome 2024’ starts tomorrow, nine days of programming that will allow Romans, until April 15, to discover the city’s hidden treasures and architectural wonders for free. This twelfth edition will offer the opportunity to visit over 200 buildings and spaces, participate in 40 thematic tours and attend 50 special events. Director Laura Calderoni underlined the importance of this initiative which has seen interest grow over time. Ohr 2024 has received the patronage of the Senate of the Republic, the Lazio Region and several Roman universities.

The program will include visits to places not normally accessible to the public, such as the walkway in the Aurelian Walls, the terrace of Porta del Popolo, the Municipal Seed Plant of San Sisto and the House of the Knights of Rhodes, among others. Activities will be organized to involve children, such as walks along the Aniene to observe and draw, and a treasure hunt in the Olympic Village. For those interested in underground Rome, there will be special openings in mysterious and fascinating places such as the Annibaldi Nymphaeum and the hypogeum of via Livenza. It will also be possible to visit contemporary spaces such as the Rectorate of Roma Tre, La Nuvola and the Bibliotheca Hertziana.

Open House Roma will be attentive to accessibility, offering multi-sensory visits for the blind and deaf, together with visits in sign language and tactile. There will be special tours such as the Eur district and the water itineraries, as well as tours dedicated to historical architecture such as the Baroque. The theme of sustainability will play an important role with the visit of buildings with low environmental impact such as the World Food Program building and events such as Architerra and Nuovi climi – strategies for global warming. Open House Rome is organized by Open City Roma Aps, chaired by Davide Paterna, together with Open House Italia, which brings together the Open Houses of the main Italian cities. The event counts on around 500 volunteers and is part of the Open House Worldwide network which involves 54 cities around the world.
