ENAIRE Foundation promotes agreements with groups of women artists to promote art made by women

ENAIRE Foundation, a cultural institution dependent on the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has started a round of interviews with groups of women artists – the associations ‘Women in the Visual Arts’ (MAV) and ‘Blanco, Negro, Magenta’ – to explore ways to promote art made by women.

As detailed in a statement, in the MAV and ‘White, Black, Magenta’ associations there are experts in art made by women, so the collaboration will enable the foundation to “expand the general knowledge of women artists and support them.”

Along these lines, the managing director of the ENAIRE Foundation, Margarita Asuar, in charge of holding the two work meetings, has highlighted that “when artistic sensitivity joins values, art becomes a fundamental tool to humanize the spaces”.

For this reason, the foundation intends to carry out actions “immediately” to collaborate with groups of women artists since, as Asuar has highlighted, there is “a historical debt” with women artists.

For Asuar, “when artistic sensitivity joins values, art becomes a fundamental tool to humanize spaces. We are going to carry out immediate actions to collaborate with collectives of women artists since there is a historical debt with the women artists”. In the words of Griselda Pollock, there is “a failure in academic art history and to a large extent in history in general, which is not taking into account the value system underlying the works of women artists.”

In this context, ENAIRE Foundation considers that both entities have a “very prominent” role in the field of artistic creation led by women. Thus, the association of women artists MAV is “a reference in contemporary art” which includes artists, curators, cultural managers, art critics and other professionals of culture and art made by women. For its part, ‘Blanco, Negro y Magenta’ is an association of “top-level women artists” in Spain.

PARTICIPATION IN THE ART BIENNIAL AND COLLECTIVE EXHIBITIONS

In the working meeting held by the managing director of the Foundation with the representative of MAV, María Ortega, the collaboration of both entities in different artistic activities carried out by ‘Women in the Visual Arts’ was discussed, of which the Art Biennial, in which the participation of the ENAIRE Foundation has been proposed.

‘Women in the Visual Arts’, as specified by the ENAIRE Foundation, is an intersectoral association of women in contemporary Spanish art founded by the feminist theorist Rocío de la Villa on May 9, 2009 with the aim of promoting the presence of women , fight against inequality and combat discrimination in this professional field.

Likewise, the representatives of the association of women artists, ‘Blanco, Negro, Magenta’, Concha Mayordomo and Ángeles Saura, proposed to Asuar the holding of collective exhibitions of women artists.

For its part, ‘Blanco, Negro y Magenta’ is a non-profit association, formed by a group of women artists who work from the visual arts on the concept of equality. With these premises, the association holds exhibitions, workshops, gatherings and maintains the magazine specialized in art and feminism ‘Blanco, Negro y Magenta-La Revista’.
