A prison sentence for the gunman of the Western film Rust, the cameraman died – Culture

American actor Alec Baldwin is charged with manslaughter.

Stateside Responsible for the guns in the Western movie Rust Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for manslaughter.

American actress Alec Baldwin had been in October 2021 rehearsing a scene with a handgun that only had to have bang charges. However, there was a real bullet in the gun.

The gun went off, killing the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the director Joel Souza was wounded.

“You were a gun officer: the person who distinguishes between a safe gun and a gun that can kill someone. You alone turned a safe weapon into a deadly weapon,” reasoned the judge Mary Marlowe Sommer.

“Without you, Hutchins would be alive. The husband would still have his partner and the little boy his mother,” the judge continued.

Gutierrez-Reedin was previously found at trial to have committed numerous acts of negligence: he had enacted security regulations, left guns unattended, and allowed actors—like Baldwin—to walk around with guns.

In addition, Gutierrez-Reed was responsible for having real bullets available for the guns used in the film, which is strictly prohibited during the filming of the film.

Baldwin is also charged with manslaughter. The actor’s death trial is scheduled to be held in July.

The star has repeatedly pleaded not guilty, insisting that he did not pull the trigger. However, ballistics experts have dismissed the claim, saying that the gun could not have gone off in any other way.
