The UNAM Choreographic Workshop combines tradition and innovation

With the world premiere of seven works performed by women, the Choreographic Workshop of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (TC UNAM) continues its inaugural season of the year, the 111th in its almost 55-year history.

This new cycle, entitled From roots to new fruits: The legacy of Gloria Contreras, Consisting of nine programs, it began on March 10 and will run until June 30.

Thus, the university company pays tribute to its founder and director for 45 years, while marking the beginning of a new stage, now under the guidance of the dancer and choreographer Irina Marcano, named head of the group on January 19. , when she became the second woman to hold that position.

In this way, tradition and innovation are the guidelines for this season, in whose next two programs emblematic works from the repertoire of maestro Gloria Contreras (1934-2015) will be performed, in addition to performing the premieres of the seven pieces already mentioned.

Under the name of Thingsthe program is made up of the eponymous work by Gloria Contreras (1934-2015), as well as Duet Rasumofsky 2 y strange fruitalso by him, in addition to the world premiere of Enigmaby Irina Marcano; Piano notes on Magritte I, by Isabel García; and T.S., by Michele Cutri, and Memory of self, by Sarah Matry-Guerre. The performance will be tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at the Estefanía Chávez Barragán Theater of the Faculty of Architecture, with free admission.

The performances will be on Saturday, April 27 at 11:30 a.m., with a free performance in the Miguel Covarrubias Room; on Sunday the 28th, at 12:30 p.m., on that same stage, although entry will be with a paid ticket, and on Friday, May 3 at 12:30 p.m., with free access to the Estefanía Chávez Barragán Theater of the Faculty of Architecture .
