The choreographer Sasha Waltz will receive the German Dance Prize 2024, the highest award in the field. A piece of news that is surprising in that the reflexive feeling arises: Didn’t Waltz receive this honor long ago? No she did not. That’s astonishing, because Waltz, born in Karlsruhe in 1963 and based in Berlin since 1992, has been one of the most prominent dance makers in the country for more than thirty years. She has constantly changed and reinvented herself artistically. She more than deserves the award. It is endowed with 20,000 euros. The award ceremony will take place in October in Essen’s Aalto Theater and is organized by the umbrella organization Tanz Deutschland.
