Record company Universal Music Group (UMG) and the video app Tiktok have come to an agreement in their months-long dispute, reports the news agency Reuters.

Thus, the music owned by the record company, which includes the catalogs of the world’s most popular artists, will once again be available in the application.

Dispute between companies the reasons were UMG’s dissatisfaction with the compensation paid by Tiktok for the use of music, the regulation of artificial intelligence and security practices.

UMG’s artists include, among others Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Drake, k-pop group Blackpink and Selena Gomez. The company’s mortgages in Finland include, for example By Robin Packalen, Bess and the Kuumaa band.

Their his music has not been available on Tiktok since the end of January, when the previous contract between UMG and Tiktok expired. However, Swift owns the copyright to her own music, and of the Financial Times according to Swift allowed some of the songs from her new album to be used on Tiktok.

Tiktok is owned by the Chinese company Bytedance. The importance of video applications in the music market has grown significantly in recent years. Many artists and songs have gained great popularity through the application.

According to UMG, Tiktok did not compensate artists nearly enough for the fact that the app rides heavily on the music they make. Tiktok, on the other hand, accused UMG of being greedy.

UMG also considered Tiktok’s approach to music made with artificial intelligence and considering the safety of young people in the application to be careless.
