Death of British actor Bernard Hill, seen in “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings”

British actor Bernard Hill, known for his roles in the cult films of the trilogy “The Lord of the Rings” and “Titanic”, died this Sunday at the age of 79, his agent, Lou Coulson, announced to the BBC .

Bernard Hill played Edward Smith, the captain of the famous Titanic, in the eponymous film by James Cameron, released in 1997. He also played King Théoden in the famous “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, in 2002 and 2003.

A familiar face and voice to the BBC

Born in Manchester in 1944, Bernard Hill trained in the theater, where he took his first steps in the early 1970s, before quickly moving on to the small and big screens.

 

The actor was also a known face and voice on the BBC, having appeared in numerous TV films and narrated several documentaries for the famous British channel.

Bernard Hill was also due to make his return to British television this weekend, with the broadcast in the United Kingdom of a new season of the police series “The Responder”, alongside actor Martin Freeman.

 

The actor was married to the American actress Marianna Hill, who worked in the cinema for a long time between the 1960s and 1980s. The couple had a son, named Gabriel.
